Our response to some issues raised in the 2024 Travel Survey
The survey included a free text field, which respondents could use to leave comments relating to their commuting travel. Some issues are out with the University's influence, but some we can respond to. We will continue to populate this page with more responses, as more detailed analysis of the survey responses progresses.
Where can I find information about on-campus cycle parking (including secure bike parking) and showers?
We have an overview of on-campus facilities for cyclists on the Sustainability Travel Planning pages, Cycling section, here.
Where can I park my car with a campus permit?
Maps showing on-campus car parking for those with a permit can be found on the car parking webpages, tile 'Parking Location Maps'.
Where can I charge my EV on campus?
The University does not supply EV charging currently for private cars on campus. The charging posts on campus are for fleet vehicles only. There are some public EV charging points close to the University, including on Lilybank car park and Bunhouse Road car park. For more locations of public charge points, please visit Charge Place Scotland.
Where can I cycle safely?
We recognise that the cycling network in Glasgow is not perfect, but also appreciate that the University is situated close to the National Cycling Network and the Glasgow segregated 'Cycling City Ways' and motor-traffic free routes such as Kelvin Way. Glasgow City Council continues to extend and improve its cycling network with many segregated cycling routes. A recent addition is the segregated cycling lane on Church Street and Byres Road. Their webpage advises on current sustainable travel projects.
What is the University doing to support public transport users?
All staff have access to staff benefits that give discounts to public transport season tickets. We recognise that the discounts do not always match the needs of hybrid workers, and have therefore started to approach operators to discuss other benefits.
How can I find someone to car-share with?
In the past, we provided a University specific portal for our staff and students to offer and search for car sharing partners. During COVID, we did not extend the service due to low demand and (at that time) official advice to not share a car. Liftshare as a platform continues to offer car sharing options, although less location specific.
Where can I safely store my e-bike, as these are not allowed in buildings?
The University policy on e-scooters, which also affects e-bikes, can be found here.
We recommend to use the bike hangars on campus to safely store e-bikes outside.
