Central Services is committed to the development of a disciplined and reliable service which ensures the safety and security of all people, buildings, property and equipment.

Our main objectives are to offer support to all employees, students and visitors. This aim is achieved by use of two modern control centres which house the most up-to-date fire and intruder alarm technology. Staff also receive specialist training with quite a number working towards vocational achievements.

Janitorial Information

35 Buildings on Main Campus are currently staffed by 52 Janitors.

6 Janitorial Support Staff are centrally based for provision of cover for events and sickness.

On term, provision is provided for DACE classes and evening teaching until 9.30pm in the Adam Smith, Hetherington and St Andrews Buildings Monday to Friday.

The Boyd Orr Building provides this service including Friday throughout the year with the exception of public holidays.

2 Janitors are based at Garscube providing mail service for the Estate and janitorial support as required.

Janitors provide support in some 22 locations during Degree Exam Diets in April/May, August and December.

Janitors provide support throughout the year, working evenings and weekends at various events including Weddings, Career Events, Open Days, Promotional Events, Chancellors Dinner and Conferences.

Operated from two Central Mail Rooms within the University, one being Gilmorehill Campus, the other Garscube Campus.

 They open Monday to Friday 0800 – 1630 and are closed on public holidays.

 

March Statistics

The Mailroom charged £20989.35 (up by £5547.69 on Feb 13) back to 155 account holders. This accounted for 28946 (up by 5690 on Feb 13) items of mail put through the franking machine.

Provide a disciplined and reliable support service which ensures the safety and security of all people, buildings, property and equipment as well as the daily control of a regulated traffic system.

University Security is staffed by the following:

5 x Senior Supervisors

9 x Deputy Senior Supervisors

5 x Leading Hands

28 x Patrol Staff

 

Staff are split into 5 Groups which provides a 24/7 Service to the University.

Library Information

 

Mr Jon Hayward – Library Attendants Manager

 

The University Library is staffed by the following:

 

1 x Manager

4 x Supervisor

14 x Attendants

 

Staff are split up into 4 Groups which provides the necessary shift patterns and manning levels to allow the Library to function.

Attendants provide the Security to the building, controlling access, patrolling public areas and overseeing exit gates. They deal with the distribution of all incoming mail and outgoing mail and provide a general portering and janitorial service as required.

The Library is open 361 days per year from 07:15 – 02:00 hrs and provides a study space for 2546 students. It holds more than 1.5 million books and journals and over 800 student PC’s (the largest cluster of PC’s on Campus). Students also have access to more that 31000 e-journals.

Hunterian Information

 

Security and Front of House Manager – Mr Thomas McIntyre

 

Founded in 1807, the Hunterian is Scotland’s oldest public museum and home to one of the largest collections outside the National Museums.

It is home to the world’s largest permanent display of work of James McNeill Whistler, the largest single holding of the work of Charles Rennie MacIntosh and The MacIntosh House, the reassembled interiors from his Glasgow Home.

 

Among the many responsible duties completed by Front of House staff is ensuring that the security and wellbeing of collections and buildings are maintained at all times as well as all visitors.

 

The Hunterian Front of House Staff is manned by the following:
