New Picnic Blanket Hire Service

No picnic blanket? No problem! You can now hire one from the Library for your Spring days in the park!
You can now borrow more than just books from the main University of Glasgow Library! The Estates Directorate is kicking off this spring by launching a new picnic blanket hire scheme for students and colleagues.
How it works:
- Head over to the main desk at the UofG Library.
- Exchange your student or staff card OR £20 in cash to hire your picnic blanket.
- Return to the Library within 24 hours, and get your student or staff card or deposit back.
Although free of charge, the system requires a deposit to cover the cost of the blanket if it damaged or lost.
Blankets, Bites & Blossoms: Lunch Event Coming Up!
To celebrate the launch of the picnic blankets, we’d love your company for lunch al fresco!
On Wednesday 1st May, we are hosting a UofG lunch-a-thon event for all colleagues and students – everyone's invited.
How to get involved:
- Gather a few colleagues/friends together.
- Plan your potluck lunch.
- Let us know that you’re coming so that we save a blanket for you! Please sign up for the event here.
- Enjoy the sun (fingers crossed) and UofG company on the day!
This event is weather dependent, and if the weather is not playing ball, we’ll get in touch the day before to confirm. We will provide the picnic blankets on the day, there is no need to hire one yourself. Please note that we are not providing food – this is a ‘bring your own’ lunch event.

Time: Come along any time between 12pm –2pm
Location: The grassy area on Library Hill, in front of the Fraser Building
