Today we join the worldwide celebration of International Women’s Day, a day that celebrates the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women across the globe.

This day serves as a poignant reminder of the progress we’ve taken toward gender equality and the vital work that remains ahead of us.

At our university fostering an environment where every individual feels safe, supported and respected is paramount.

In alignment with this vision, the University launched the 'Together Against Gender-Based Violence' campaign to coincide with the UN's 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence (25 November – 10 December). This initiative aims to elevate awareness surrounding Gender-Based Violence (GBV) and highlight the support and resources available to our community.

The ‘Together Against Gender-Based Violence’ campaign is a collaborative effort, designed in partnership with the SRC and informed by extensive consultation with students and colleagues across the institution. In our next phase, we will further illuminate the nuances of GBV, emphasising avenues for reporting and seeking support, including a specific focus on sexual harassment within the workplace.

Additionally, we will also shortly relaunch our Code of Professional Conduct for all colleagues accompanied by a short animation to succinctly explain its key messages, reinforcing our commitment to maintaining a safe and respectful work environment for everyone.

In continuation of our campaign, I invite you to join the University’s virtual screening of the film She Said (2022) this evening 8 March at 8.00pm. This powerful narrative underscores the importance of amplifying survivors’ voices and championing accountability.

Thank you for your continued support with this important initiative. Together, let us reaffirm our collective commitment to eradicating gender-based violence in all its forms and continue to work toward a university where everyone feels empowered, valued, and safe.
