Dear [name]

The School recently notified you about an allegation that you may have [allegation] in the [course] online examination, and sought your response. The allegation related to Question [xx] of the examination.

In the statement you submitted to us you said that…

[example text]  …you had not colluded with another student and that the similarities in your work had most likely come about because you had both followed the same calculation method provided in a revision tutorial, but this had been an incorrect calculation to apply in this question.]

I discussed your explanation with the lecturer for this course and was advised that this explanation was plausible.

In these circumstances, I accept your explanation and confirm that no misconduct is found. Your examination answers will be marked without penalty and the results returned to you. I am sorry for the distress the allegation may have caused, but hope you can appreciate that all allegations of academic misconduct must be investigated in order to preserve the integrity of the University’s assessment processes.

The final page of this letter provides a number of useful links to help you improve your academic practice for the remainder of your studies.  Please take the time to review them.

Yours sincerely
