UofG Technicians

The Technician Commitment Steering Group is delighted to announce that the University of Glasgow will be holding its annual Technical Conference on Thursday 27 August 2026, from 9.30am to 3.30pm at Hunter Halls.

This free event is open to technical colleagues from across the University and provides an opportunity to celebrate technical excellence, share experiences, build networks, and hear about developments both within the University and across the wider higher education sector.

The conference will be opened by Principal Professor Andy Schofield, followed by an introduction to the University's new strategic vision, Glasgow 2036, from Professor Jo Gill, Vice-Principal and Head of the College of Arts & Humanities.

The programme will feature a wide range of presentations, including updates from the Technician Commitment Champions Network (TCCN) and Technician Commitment Managers & Leaders Network (TCMN Connect), technician flash talks showcasing innovative work taking place across the University, and updates on technician-led initiatives including InFrame, the Scottish Research Technical Professionals (SRTP) Academy, and RELAX.

Delegates will also hear from colleagues in People & Organisational Development on Professional Services grading and progression, alongside the presentation of the University's latest technician Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) report.

We are pleased to welcome Jiteen Ahmed (Aston University) as our keynote speaker and Simon Breeden (UK Institute for Technical Skills & Strategy), who will provide sector-wide updates on the progress of the Technician Commitment and developments across the UK technical community.

As in previous years, the conference will include a poster competition, exhibition space, and dedicated networking opportunities throughout the day. The poster session will showcase the breadth of technical expertise across the University, with prize winners announced during the closing session.

A panel discussion featuring sector leaders will round off what promises to be an engaging and inspiring day.

Lunch and refreshments will be provided. If you do not normally work on a Thursday, you may still attend the event and should discuss any alternative working arrangements with your line manager.

We look forward to welcoming technical colleagues from across the University to what promises to be our largest and most ambitious Technical Conference yet.
