Researcher Development

Development for Supervisors
Supervisor Training
All supervisors are required to undertake the Supervisor Foundation Training every five years (four years in the College of Arts). It focuses on the practicalities of PGR Degrees at Glasgow. The aim of the course is ensure that both you and your student have the best possible experience of supervision.
Additionally, supervisors must complete Staff Research Integrity Training, which contains a dedicated section relating to research integrity within supervision.

The UofG PGR Supervisor Community of Practice
All doctoral supervisors at the University of Glasgow are invited to join the ‘PGR Supervisor Community of Practice’.
The invitation is open to all staff practicing PGR supervision, whether as primary supervisor, part of a supervisory team, or informally as an associate supervisor. This means we are a collective community of over 3000 research and academic staff across the university.

UofG Supervisor Workshop Series
The UofG Supervisor Workshop Series is designed to support your development as a supervisor, centred on discussion and ideas from the community. Each session in the series is a 1 hour flipped workshop.

PGR Supervisor Buddying
This new initiative is intended to develop supportive, collegial relationships across the supervisor Community of Practice, and encourage existing and more established supervisors to reflect on their own practice. Buddying, which is based on peer-mentoring, is a way of supporting us to develop our practice through mentoring conversations.
