Fundamentals of Postgraduate Supervision

All supervisors are required to undertake the supervisor foundation training - called Fundamentals of Postgraduate Supervision - every five years (four years if supervising a PGR through the Scottish Graduate School of Social Sciences). It focuses on the practicalities of supervising PGRs in the University of Glasgow context. The course recognises the difficult and complex task of supervision, and aims to support you and your PGRs to have the best possible experience of supervision.

The training is hosted on Moodle, and is completed by working through the materials and doing a quiz. The training itself can be read through in around 1-hour. However it links out to a wide range of policy, guidance, and resource documents which can take several hours. Completed training pulls through to your HR Record.

There is an open access version for external supervisors of UofG PGRs (not on Moodle, so no end of course assessment) and a downloadable large-print text-only MS Word version

Additionally, supervisors must complete Staff Research Integrity Training, which contains a dedicated section relating to research integrity within supervision.
