The University is currently inviting applications for two new Assistant Vice Principal roles to strengthen leadership capacity in key areas of University activity.  The first will support Professor Frank Coton, Senior Vice Principal and Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic), in the area of Strategy and Resources and the second will support Professor Moira Fischbacher-Smith, Vice Principal Learning and Teaching, in maintaining an excellent learning environment within the University. 

Both posts will be available for 3 years in the first instance, and on a part-time basis to allow the post holders to continue with aspects of their current academic roles.  The initial expectation is that the commitment to the Assistant Vice Principal roles will be somewhere between 0.3 and 0.5FTE subject to discussion and agreement with the successful applicants and in consideration of the impact on their current activity.

Assistant Vice Principal (Strategy and Resources)

Elements of the role include:

• Supporting the Senior Vice Principal in the overall strategic and operational leadership and direction of the University and contributing to the leadership of the development, implementation and progress monitoring of the University’s Strategic Plan and to institutional resource planning.
• Leading the shaping and negotiation of the University Outcome Agreement with the Scottish Funding Council.
• Contributing to the leadership and oversight of University Professorial Zoning & Academic Promotion mechanisms, including participating in the University’s Academic Promotions and Professorial Zoning Panels.

Assistant Vice Principal (Learning and Teaching)

Elements of the role include:

• Contributing to leadership of the learning and teaching strategy by supporting the Vice Principal with overseeing aspects of strategy implementation
• Chairing the University’s Learning and Teaching Committee
• Representing the University on the Scottish Higher Education Enhancement Committee
• Chairing Periodic Subject Review(s)
• Overseeing the Teaching Excellence Awards Scheme
