The University is launching a new policy to support colleagues experiencing menopausal transitions and hormonal changes

In line with World Menopause Day 2022 (18 October 2022), the University will launch a new policy to support colleagues experiencing menopausal transitions and hormonal changes.

The Menopause and Hormonal Changes Policy represents one of the University’s initial steps in raising awareness of menopause and hormonal changes, reducing the stigma around discussing these experiences, and encouraging colleagues to request adjustments and/or support.

The policy includes evidence-based resources created by Menopause Information Pack for Organizations (MIPO), a research-based, free, open access suite of resources to help workplaces support menopausal transition. MIPO’s UK-based lead is Professor Kat Riach, Adam Smith Business School.

It also compliments a series of events and online menopause cafes that the University has hosted over the past 12-18 months.

Welcoming this policy, Vice-Principal and University Gender Champion, Professor Sara Carter said: "It is great to see the University launch this policy and associated peer support and events. This marks an important first step towards creating an inclusive and menopause-sensitive university community ensuring all colleagues can continue to thrive throughout each stage of their working lives."

As part of the University’s activity to mark World Menopause Day, colleagues and their families can participate in three specialist webinars on key topics relating to menopause and perimenopause as well as register for the University’s first in-person Menopause Café.

Colleagues can find the policy, existing online training, support available through Employee Assistance Provider (Health Assured), and connect with the University’s Menopause and Hormonal Changes Peer Support Teams site via the Health & Wellbeing Hub on the Staff Portal.
