Improve sustainability skills through professional networks and training

Published: 21 October 2021

Did you know that the University runs sustainability training and professional development courses?

The University's Centre for Sustainable Solutions is supporting colleagues to access skills and knowledge around sustainability through our Community of Practice and training courses.

Join our Sustainability in L&T Community of Practice

The Sustainability in Learning & Teaching Community of Practice aims to bring together colleagues from across the University to advance the understanding and implementation of good practice in sustainability.

This month, the group hosted student activist leaders, who led a Pecha Kucha event – the “Listen! Students Leading Staff for Sustainability” Practice Workshop – which showcased and amplified student voices and action with an aim to motivate, inform and propel our own commitments to sustainability.

Our aim was clearly met with wide ranging evidence that 65+participants gained new knowledge and were inspired. Don’t just take our word for it:

As one participant said, “There is clear demand from students for action. As staff we need to respond.”

Join our Sustainability in Learning & Teaching Community to access support and resources, including our bi-monthly Practice Workshop series.  You can also read more about the Sustainability in Learning & Teaching Community of Practice on their webpages.

Courses available from the CfSS

Did you know that the University’s Centre for Sustainable Solutions (CfSS), provides upskilling opportunities for staff and students through a range of educational courses?

These courses are designed to equip members of the University with the knowledge and skills required to minimise the impact of our activities on the environment.

  • Climate Change and Carbon Literacy – this is a microcredentials course open to all staff, and specifically designed for those new to the discipline. It will provide you with the skills to implement good sustainability practices within your organisation, community or household.
  • Introduction to Climate Change and Sustainability – a 10-week accredited evening course for UofG students, this covers the historical and sociological causes of the climate crisis whilst looking at potential solutions and current theories on how to respond.
  • Sustainable Laboratories – the Centre for Sustainable Solutions has developed a training course for lab-users, focused on reducing waste and energy use. This is delivered as part of the Laboratory Efficiency Assessment Framework (LEAF), which UofG delivers in collaboration with UCL.

Please note that the microcredentials course is currently in the middle of delivering its current programme, however the CfSS will be opening it again in April 2022 and is now taking expressions of interest, please see the University's Microcredentials page to register an interest.
