Find out about recent updates and changes

The University’s REF2021 Code of Practice was approved by the Scottish Funding Council on 16 August 2019. Since that date, some minor changes have been made to our Code. These changes include:

  • Updates to the Code following COVID-related revisions to REF2021.
  • Updates reflecting the REF submission deadline is now 31 March 2021.
  • Extension of list of ‘circumstances requiring a judgement’ to include other personal circumstances relating to Covid-19 e.g. furlough, clinical staff being diverted to front line services or staff unable to access research facilities. Note that these additional circumstances only apply to output reductions where REF-eligible staff have been unable to produce any REF-eligible outputs between 1 January 2014 and 31 July 2020 and therefore need to be submitted with zero outputs against their name.
  • Addition of three Fellowships to the list of independent Research Fellowships set out in Appendix 2 of the Code.
  • Updates to membership and remit of REF Project Board and updates to the membership of ROG and its subgroups.
  • Changes to the timetables for (i) notifying R-only staff of their status as an independent researcher and (ii) the associated appeals process.

Further details of these changes can be found on our webpages.
