To mark the 400th anniversary of William Shakespeare’s death Times Higher Education have released a list of the top 25 universities which are more than 400 years old.

To mark the 400th anniversary of William Shakespeare’s death Times Higher Education have released a list of the top 25 universities which are more than 400 years old.

The University of Glasgow has placed ninth in the list, above St Andrew’s and Aberdeen.

Overall, 11 countries feature in the table.

The ranking was compiled using the data collected for the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2015-16, but filtered to only include those institutions that are more than 400 years old. 

The University of Glasgow was founded in 1451 and is the fourth oldest university in the UK.
