A new policy comes into force from 1 April that affects whether your journal articles and conference proceedings will be eligible for submission to the next Research Excellence Framework (REF).

What is the policy?

To be eligible for submission to the next REF the final peer-reviewed manuscript of your journal OR conference papers accepted after 1 April 2016 must satisfy the following two criteria:

1.  They must have been deposited into an institutional or subject repository

and then

2.  They must be made open access within a defined period (12 months for STEM subjects and 24 months for Arts and Social Sciences subjects)

What do I need to do?

The Library has set up a simple process to help you to comply with this policy.

All you need to do is forward immediately the acceptance email you receive from the publisher to the Library at research-openaccess@glasgow.ac.uk

If possible, attach to the email the author-final version of the paper that was accepted.

When does the policy start?

The policy applies to every publication and conference paper published from 1 April 2016.

Notes

The REF open access policy applies only to journal articles and conference proceedings. It does not apply to other types of publication.

For more information, please visit Open Access

The Library will advise on open access compliance for REF and also for any research funder acknowledged in your paper.
