Library

The Library Annexe Upgrade Project continues to progress, and the results are starting to show!

A new glazed facade has been revealed on Levels 8 and 9 at the north side of the Library:

Updated cladding on the outside of the Library

This is the beginning of a visible shift to a more modern, comfortable Annexe with more natural light, better insulation and improved ventilation, heating and cooling.

The new facade on the west side of the Library, at Bute Gardens, will also be revealed later this month, as the external scaffolding is removed.

Internal Upgrades

Internal works will soon begin in Annexes on Levels 6-9. There will be periods of temporary closure for Annexes on these levels, and books will be stored safely elsewhere. If you need any books stored in the Annexes that are not available digitally, we can help you to borrow them before the Annexe closes. During the closure we will do our best to either source a digital copy or borrow a print copy via InterLibrary Loan.

Find out more about accessing materials stored in the Annexes.

These closures will allow for essential upgrades to the Annexe environment, including:

  • Improved heating, cooling and ventilation
  • Modernised lighting
  • Power for all desks
  • Wider aisles and lower shelves for better accessibility
  • Enhanced energy efficiency and sustainability
