Published: 9 June 2025
Library Annexe Upgrade works continue, with intermittent noise disruption expected on Levels 3-12.
This week, Library Annexe Upgrade works will continue outside the Library at Bute Gardens, on the north side of the building from Level 10 upwards and inside the Library on Levels 10 and 11 of the Central Staircase.
Space Closures
Area | Dates and times | Details |
---|---|---|
Level 10 Level 11 | Eight weeks from Monday 2 June |
There will be no access to Levels 10 or 11 until late July while construction works take place in the Central Staircase. A Click and Collect service will be available to allow access to books while the floors are closed. |
Alternative study spaces
Quiet study spaces are available in the McMillan Reading Room, Fraser Building Level 3 and the James McCune Smith Learning Hub, which has a silent study space on Level 5.
Find a space and check how busy each space is in the UofG Life app.
Noise Disruption in the Library
There is likely to be noise around the Library this week due to ongoing works on the West and North sides of the building. The majority of noise disruption will take place from 08:00-17:00, Monday-Friday. Evenings and weekends will be quieter. Free earplugs are available from the Welcome Desk on Level 2 if required.
We thank you for your patience as these essential works progress. If you have any questions, please send an email to the Reach Out Library team or speak to one of our Reach Out Ambassadors in the building.
About the Library Annexe Upgrade Project
In November 2024, work began on a £23 million investment project to upgrade the Annexe of the University Library.
The Annexe exterior will be fully renewed, with roof coverings and wall cladding replaced with modern materials that increase energy efficiency and meet current technical standards. Annexe study spaces will also be improved, with more natural light, upgraded ventilation, better heating and cooling facilities, and more access to power.
