The Nomination Stage

Nominations can only be made by staff.  They may be self-initiated, but must be seconded by another member of staff.

The nominations for 2012-2013 awards must be submited by 25 February 2013

Nominators

Nominations must be made by at least two members of staff and submitted via the nomination form: TEA Nomination form and guidelines 2013  The member(s) of staff/GTA(s) being nominated should also sign to confirm their willingness to be nominated.

The Nomination Statement

The nomination form should be submitted along with a supporting statement consisting of no more than two sides of A4 via email to Janet.Fleming@glasgow.ac.uk or by post to Teaching Excellence Awards, Senate Office, Gilbert Scott Building, University Avenue, G12 8QQ.  Receipt of nominations will be confirmed by email.

The statement may be in the form of a letter or memo and should give a critical assessment of the work for which the candidate is being nominated against the TEA criteria:TEA Criteria 2013

The Selection Panel

These submissions will be examined by a Selection Panel consisting of the following:

  • Vice Principal (Learning & Teaching), Convener
  • Student Representative
  • Director (or nominee) of the Learning and Teaching Centre
  • 2 Deans (Learning & Teaching)
  • Lay member of the University Court

Consideration of the Nominations

Nominations will be circulated to the Panel early in March and the Panel will meet around mid-March.  The Panel will decide, on the basis of the statement presented, which applications will be invited to proceed to the Evidence Stage.

The Panel's decisions will take account of the extent to which the nomination addresses each of the criteria.  The Panel will reach its decisions after individual consideration of each statement and then at a Panel meeting, discussion of its relative merits and any particular strengths or notable aspects.  The Panel's discussions will be informed by a scoring system which each Panel member will use to judge each nomination against each of the TEA Criteria. Scoring will be on a scale of 0 to 3 where:

  • 0 indicates not meeting this criterion / not applicable to the nomination;
  • 1 indicates activity at the level expected of a person / people of that seniority;
  • 2 indicates very good practice; and
  • 3 indicates exemplary practice.

Decisions will not be made on the basis of statements scores alone.

It is not expected that all criteria will be met by all nominees.  Although a nomination that is strong in all categories is likely to be well placed, it should be noted that the Selection Panel may also recognise nominations that have a particular strength,  notable aspect or fall into one of the TEA categories‎. All proposers and nominees will be informed of the decisions made by the Panel in April 2013.
