What was the approach?

A new ‘Careers and future opportunities’ template has now been implemented across all undergraduate programme webpages. The template was co-created with a student intern (Efua, 3rd year Immunology student), whose insights helped to ensure the content reflected the questions and priorities that matter most to University of Glasgow students.

The redesigned section brings together multiple sources of information to provide a richer picture of graduate outcomes and future opportunities. It includes:

  • examples of real graduate job titles, using Graduate Outcomes1 data
  • key employment indicators, including graduate-level employment, progression to work or further study and average professional salary (also taken from Graduate Outcomes data)
  • subject-specific transferable skills, presented using the University's skills language
  • information about the support available throughout a student's degree provided by Careers, Employability & Opportunity
  • alumni perspectives on how their degree prepared them for their career, developed in partnership with the Alumni team.

Together, these elements help prospective and current students better understand both the immediate opportunities available after graduation and the wider value of their degree.

What are the key takeaways?

A pilot process was conducted to support the development of the template, which involved 13 programme pages from across the institution. Feedback gathered during the pilot highlighted that programme teams thought the revamped section provided a more engaging and consistent way of communicating the employability value of our undergraduate degrees.

By bringing together information about graduate destinations, employment outcomes, transferable skills and student support in one place, the new section helps prospective students see clearer evidence of how their degree prepares them for a wide range of future opportunities, while also addressing a frequently asked question about return on investment.

The template also provides a strong foundation for future enhancements. While the core structure has been standardised across all undergraduate programmes, there will continue to be opportunities to enrich content over time, for example through additional alumni stories or other evidence that reflects the experiences and outcomes of our graduates.

Building on this work, the project team will also be exploring how a similar approach could be adapted for postgraduate taught programme webpages, recognising the different challenges and data available for this audience.
