Stay secure while travelling

Travel advice

When travelling for work, it's important to think about work and personal information contained on your devices and what the impact would be if they were lost or stolen. This information can help you stay secure while on the go.

  • Only access the information and data you need
  • Use the University's VPN to create a secure link between your device and the University network
  • Limit your use of free Wi-Fi networks and only use official Wi-Fi offered
  • Use shared and public devices with caution:
    • Never save passwords or your details
    • Do not use public devices or machines if you are working with University data
    • Always log out completely
  • Encrypt laptops and mobile devices. Encryption helps to protect your data if your device is lost or stolen.

If travelling to locations that are assessed as high risk, there may be additional concerns around information authorities can access from your device(s).

All trips taken by University staff or students when travelling on University business must be registered within the University travel, risk, insurance, compliance approval portal (TRICAP)
