The Scottish Information Commissioner is completely distinct from the UK Information Commissioner. The latter enforces and oversees the Data Protection Act 1998, the UK-wide aspects of the UK Freedom of Information Act 2000, the UK-wide aspects of the Environmental Information Regulations 2004, the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations, and the Telecommunications Regulations. The UK Information Commissioner is a UK independent supervisory authority reporting directly to the UK Parliament and has both an international and national role.
