Conference theme
The 2021 Conference took place on 18th June across a suite of virtual rooms centred around a replica of Glasgow's grand Bute Hall.
The preceding academic year saw the most significant upheaval to our learning and teaching environment that any of us are likely to have experienced.
Under the theme of Transforming Teaching & Taking Stock, this year’s conference was a chance to celebrate the developments, adaptations and innovations that have supported the success of our students, our staff, and of the University through the unique challenges of that past academic year.
It was also a chance to reflect on our strong recent technological and pedagogical history in designing blended learning environments that laid the foundation for that success.

SoTL 'Unconference' - full details

This symposium will explore the importance of SoTL (the Scholarship of Teaching & Learning) as an evidence base on which to build transformations in your teaching, for evidencing best practice, and for helping practitioners to take stock of how they currently practice to enhance their SoTL outputs.
We are an interdisciplinary group of LTS academics who have emerged from the UofG SoTL Network. For the last nine months we have met regularly to share our experiences of the trials, tribulations, and rewards of working on LTS contracts and about how we are finding our feet with SoTL. We discuss our individual and collaborative practices, and we learn from each other different approaches to achieving the same goals. We do not pretend to be experts, but we are a group of reflective practitioners with some expertise both in running SoTL projects and in reflecting upon our own teaching practice, and we have an ever-growing appreciation of the power of collaborative networks. With members from each of the four colleges, our diverse backgrounds mean that we have a wealth of experience to share about our individual journeys to becoming LTS practitioners of SoTL.
We would like to open this conversation up to others on the LTS track and invite them to join us and take part in a conversation about the various stages of SoTL and the support needed for it to be fruitful. Participants are encouraged to bring along any ideas they have for SoTL– from a tiny spark of an initial thought to a full-grown project with bells and whistles – for discussion, support and encouragement.
Learning points
By the end of the session participants will have had the opportunity:
- To discuss what SoTL is and why it is so important for learning and teaching
- To take stock of their own teaching practice and consider how they might use this in order to enhance their SoTL outputs
- To gain, first-hand, the power of collaborative discussion in supporting and shaping SoTL projects
- To meet like-minded individuals who are enthusiastic about the joys of SoTL
