Let's Make Good Trouble with Art Activist Barbie

In her campaign for social justice, with a modus operandi of “small signs, big questions, fabulous wardrobe”, Art Activist Barbie has been staging her own mini -protests all over the UK since 2018, showcased on Twitter @barbiereports. For centuries museums and art galleries have been upheld as sites of knowledge, truth and authority. Art Activist Barbie challenges this view, and publicly protests the unequal representation of women artists and problematic depiction of women in art.
Join us in the Hunterian Art Gallery for this special workshop with Barbie herself. We'll be looking at the revamped displays of our permanent collection and interrogating how women have been portrayed across our artworks. Participants will get the opportunity to create their own mini-placards for their Barbie (dolls provided!) and make their own statements. Let's make good trouble!
