Main Duties & Responsibilities
-
Provide strategic leadership as a member of the School Management Group, shaping organisational direction and ensuring delivery of the School's strategy through effective operational planning, organisational performance and continuous improvement, aligned with College and University priorities.

Act as a strategic partner to the Head of School, providing expert advice, operational insight and evidence-informed analysis to support executive decision-making, organisational development and the successful delivery of the School's strategic objectives.

Lead and develop an integrated professional services function that delivers high-quality, responsive and customer-focused services, enabling excellence across the School's academic mission while fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation and continuous improvement.

Lead the development and implementation of the School's operational plans and performance framework, using business intelligence, data and meaningful performance measures to monitor delivery, identify opportunities and drive organisational effectiveness.

Lead the operational delivery of strategic priorities and organisational change within the School, ensuring effective programme governance, stakeholder engagement, implementation and evaluation, while aligning local delivery with College and University priorities.

Work in partnership with the Head of School and College colleagues to support strategic financial planning, resource allocation, income sustainability and the operational delivery of initiatives that enhance the School's long-term financial resilience, enterprise activity and strategic growth.

Provide strategic oversight of the School's governance, operational risk, compliance and business continuity arrangements, ensuring adherence to University policies, statutory requirements, accreditation standards and quality assurance processes, working with specialist colleagues as appropriate.

Drive organisational effectiveness through service redesign, process improvement, digital enhancement and the adoption of best practice, ensuring professional services remain agile, efficient and responsive to the evolving needs of the School.

Lead, develop and inspire the School's professional services leadership team, creating a high-performing, inclusive and collaborative culture that supports staff engagement, wellbeing, professional development and continuous learning.

Develop and maintain productive strategic relationships with academic leaders, College and University colleagues, external partners and stakeholders to strengthen organisational capability, enhance the School's reputation and support opportunities for collaboration, enterprise and growth.

Contribute actively to College and University leadership groups, representing the School in institutional initiatives and influencing the development of professional services strategy, policy and operating models across the University.

Act on behalf of the Head of School and Director of College Professional Services, as appropriate, representing the School internally and externally and contributing to initiatives that enhance the University's reputation and strategic objectives.
Knowledge & Qualifications
Essential:

A1 Scottish Credit and Qualification Framework level 9, 10 or 11 (Ordinary/Honours Degree, Postgraduate Qualification) or equivalent, including being professionally qualified in a relevant discipline, together with substantial professional leadership experience in a senior management role. Alternatively, the ability to demonstrate the competencies required to undertake the duties associated with this level of post through significant professional knowledge and leadership experience gained across a range of relevant specialist or management roles.

Our Impact
The University of Glasgow was founded for the benefit of the city and its people. - The Glasgow Science Festival,which has been running since 2007 and is now one of the largest science festivals in the UK, with over 50,000 visitors in attendance.
- The ‘Polymerase Chain Reaction’ workshop, a collaboration between Glasgow Science Centre and the University of Glasgow, supporting the gap in the teaching of molecular biology and giving practical, hands-on experience to school pupils.
- ‘Trusty Paws’, a clinic which was set up by University of Glasgow students to provide care to homeless dogs in Glasgow. Local vets from across the city, along with lecturers from the Vet School, volunteer their time to oversee the clinics, allowing the students to gain invaluable practical clinical experience.
