NOVEMBER 2025
This autumn marks a moment of renewal and impetus at the University of Glasgow.
On October 1st we were delighted to welcome Professor Andy Schofield as our new Principal and Vice-Chancellor. Professor Schofield, who was formerly Vice Chancellor of Lancaster University and a distinguished expert in theoretical physics, brings to the role significant experience and a sincere commitment to the values that define our #TeamUofG community. In these initial weeks, Professor Schofield has been immersing himself in the life of the University, and I am thrilled that we are able to share some of his early reflections in this edition of Connect, where he speaks openly about leadership, his new role, and the enduring importance of partnerships with a purpose.
As we look ahead, we are proud to launch our new campaign, History has a Future Here, which reflects our enduring commitment to harnessing our heritage and expertise to serve our communities locally, nationally and internationally. It is a celebration of who we are, and a bold statement of where we are going!
Through this campaign, we will spotlight research that addresses the most pressing challenges of our time, showcasing stories that exemplify the University’s dedication to research that is bold and truly transformative, and our commitment to not only being the best University in the world, but also the best University for the world.
The campaign launches as we prepare to mark a remarkable milestone, our 575th anniversary in 2026. This will be a moment to honour our extraordinary legacy, but more importantly, it will serve as an opportunity to reaffirm our values and state our ambitions for the decades to come. I look forward to sharing further details of our 575-year plans with you in our next edition of Connect.
Thank you for your continued engagement and support. We look forward to sharing more in the months ahead as we prepare to embark on this next exciting chapter together.
Best wishes,
Professor Rachel Sandison OBE
Deputy Vice-Chancellor (External Engagement)
