MAY 2025
Following Europe Day 2025, we are reflecting on the pivotal role Horizon Europe continues to play in advancing our research and innovation ambitions with our European partners. Five years after the UK’s departure from the EU, Horizon Europe remains as relevant as ever. In this increasingly volatile and uncertain geopolitical climate, the importance of international collaboration grounded in mutual respect and shared values has never been more critical. Horizon Europe is more than just a funding mechanism; it is a powerful catalyst for cross-border cooperation, scientific excellence, and strengthening our ties with Europe, and I am pleased to highlight its continued impact in this edition of the Connect newsletter.
We recently marked the 20th anniversary of the Scotland–Malawi partnership. The milestone was celebrated with a special event on our Gilmorehill Campus, bringing together academic collaborators and government representatives from both nations. The gathering served as a platform to explore how we can expand and strengthen our existing connections and consider the future of the partnership between the Scottish Higher Education sector, the Scottish Government, and Malawi.
Looking ahead, we are excited to connect with many of you at EAIE 2025 in Gothenburg this September. We hope the conference provides an invaluable space for strengthening existing partnerships, sparking new collaborations, and connecting with #TeamUofG colleagues in person.
Best wishes,
Professor Rachel Sandison OBE
Deputy Vice-Chancellor (External Engagement)
