Professor Petra Meier, Professor of Public Health MRC/CSO Social & Public Health Sciences Unit and SIPHER Consortium Director, is to lead one of four initial investments within the newly established Population Health Improvement UK (PHI-UK) network. The aim of PHI-UK is to find innovative and inclusive ways to improve the health of people, places and communities and reduce health inequalities through the development and evaluation of long-lasting and environmentally sustainable interventions. Commenting on the announcement of this £35 million investment by UK Research and Innovation (UKRI), Professor Meier noted, “As Director of the Enhancing Policy Modelling theme, I am delighted to be working with a strong coalition of scientists, policymakers, charities, and citizens groups. Together we will be using computer modelling alongside wide-ranging public engagement to highlight the complex interplay between economic policy decisions and the population’s health and inform the development of effective policy solutions."

The University of Glasgow team will include MVLS staff and the following COSS colleagues (Clementine Hill OConnor, Ellen Stewart, Alison Heppenstall, Graeme Roy and Nicola McEwen)
