Glasgow Science Festival

Graham volunteered with Glasgow Science Festival for several years during his time at the University of Glasgow

'I work at NASA Goddard in Washington DC, USA on the LISA mission which is a space based gravitational wave detector. Doing public engagement has really allowed me to build my network and that has opened a lot of doors and created opportunities for me to have a very diverse career in science.
I started doing outreach because working with the public helped me understand my own science better. I was very enthusiastic about my own science but sharing that wonder with somebody else made me realise the importance of public engagement. Starting public engagement can be quite daunting, even for people who are quite confident. I really encourage researchers to put themselves outside their comfort zone and the more you do it the easier it becomes.'
