On-the-day instructions

As your graduation day approaches, we want to ensure you are well-prepared. Below is some important information to ensure you have everything you need to enjoy your special day.

Registration

On the day of your graduation, you must register for your ceremony. If you are late, you may not be able to graduate so please allow plenty of time to register.

You must bring your student ID card with you to register, If you no longer have your card, bring photographic ID and your student number.

Non-attendance

If you enrol for the ceremony but don't attend without prior notification to the Registry, your graduation will be considered in absentia, and your documents will be sent to your recorded Home address in MyCampus.

Guest Tickets

The University is pleased to offer all graduands attending their ceremony two guest tickets for the Bute Hall. There are no additional guest tickets available beyond these two tickets. Guest tickets are managed through Ede & Ravenscroft.

If any of your guests require accessible seating or step-free access, please select the appropriate ticket option when booking guest tickets through Ede & Ravenscroft.

Booking dates

  • Booking opens: Monday 19 October 2026, 10am
  • Booking closes: Friday 20 November 2026, 5pm
To receive your guest tickets, you must book them through Ede & Ravenscroft before 5pm on Friday 20 November 2026. Guest tickets for Bute Hall cannot be booked or requested on the day of your ceremony.
 

Overflow tickets

An overflow venue is available for family and friends who are unable to be accommodated in Bute Hall. Tickets to the overflow venue are limited to two per graduand and will be available when you register on the day of your ceremony.
 
Children

Children are welcome to attend the ceremony but must have a ticket and be accompanied by an appropriate adult.

Please note that the upper area of Bute Hall is not suitable for children. If your guests include children, please speak to the Graduation and Ceremonial Events Team at registration so that suitable seating arrangements can be made.

Access, maps and travel

Plan your journey and consider alternative transportation options, as parking near the campus is limited. Further information on travel to and from the University can be found on Access, Maps & Travel.

If you or your guests require additional support that cannot be accommodated through the standard graduation arrangements or ticket booking process, please contact the Graduation and Ceremonial Events Team before your ceremony.

Bag policy

Avoid bringing large bags or rucksacks, as they are not allowed in Bute Hall. A bag drop is available on campus for storage. Note that bags may be subject to search. Please be aware that there are no cloakroom facilities on the graduation day.

Ceremony information

Ceremonies typically last 1 to 1.5 hours, depending on the number of graduands. Please note that we do want everyone to enjoy the ceremony but would ask that all graduands and guests keep the celebrations to clapping and cheering. Please refrain from waving any flags or banners as this may impair the experience for those seated nearby.

Food and drink

Hot drinks and alcohol are not permitted in Bute Hall but you may wish to bring some water.

Post-ceremony reception

There will be a post-ceremony drinks reception in the marquee in the East Quad.

Newspaper publication

If you have opted to have your name published in the press, your name will be published in The Herald newspaper. Copies will be available to purchase in the Cloisters on the day of the ceremony.

Photography

Professional photographs will be taken as you cross the stage during the ceremony. Portrait photography will also be available before and after the ceremony and can be booked in advance through Ede & Ravenscroft, or arranged on the day of your ceremony.

Changes to Arrangements

Please be aware that graduation arrangements may be subject to change due to unforeseen circumstances. We will make every effort to communicate any changes through our website, social media channels, and by directly contacting attending students.

Graduation Ceremony Postponement

In the highly unlikely event of a graduation ceremony postponement or cancellation, the University will make every effort to communicate this as soon as possible through our website, social media, and direct contact with attending students. Under no circumstances shall the University be liable for any actual or alleged loss incurred by ticket holders, including but not limited to travel, accommodation, subsistence costs, or any loss of business or earnings due to such postponement or cancellation.
