Graduation

Life after Graduation

Receiving your graduation documents

If you attended a graduation ceremony, you will have received your documents on the day of your ceremony.

If you graduated in absentia, your graduation documents will have been sent to you within one month of your graduation date.

For Undergraduate Certificate and Undergraduate Diploma awards, documents are sent directly to the home address recorded on MyCampus. No graduation enrolment is required.

Proof of award

If you need official confirmation of your award for employment, further study or other purposes, the following documents can be used as evidence of your award.

Certifying letter

The Student Services Enquiry Team can provide a Certifying Letter confirming your awarded degree. This is commonly used as formal proof of your qualification.

Transcript (HEAR)

You can also request a copy of your HEAR (final transcript) from Student Services if you need confirmation of your academic record.

Replacement parchment

If your original parchment has been lost, stolen or damaged, you may purchase a replacement parchment via the University Shop.

Purchase a replacement parchment

  • Cost: £50 (including VAT)
  • VAT does not apply to overseas orders, although local customs charges may apply
  • Your replacement parchment will be sent to the address provided during purchase
  • A maximum of one replacement parchment can be ordered
  • Please note that all replacement parchments are issued in A4 format. A3 parchments are no longer produced

Please note: Replacement parchments are available to graduates from the 1988/89 academic session onwards. Graduates prior to 1988/89 should request a Certifying Letter instead.

Name changes after graduation

Once your degree parchment has been issued, names cannot normally be changed.

Exceptions apply in the following circumstances:

  • Administrative errors reported to the Graduation and Ceremonial Events Team within three months of graduation
  • Name changes relating to gender reassignment, in line with Equality Act 2010 provisions

If you have changed your name as part of gender reassignment, please contact the Graduation and Ceremonial Events Team via the contact details below and we will be happy to help.

If you change your name after completing your studies (for example, through marriage or deed poll), your parchment will not be reissued. Your certificate should be presented alongside official documentation confirming your name change.

Graduate Outcomes Survey

Approximately fifteen months after graduating, you will be contacted about taking part in the Graduate Outcomes Survey. Your response helps current and future University of Glasgow students gain valuable insight into career destinations and professional development opportunities, and supports the University in shaping its programmes.
The survey team may contact you by email or phone.
