Addressing the Development Implications of Illicit Economies: The Rise of a Policy and Research Agenda

Illicit economies have been traditionally regarded as the drivers behind instability, violence and weak governance structures hampering socioeconomic development. However, for marginalised communities and regions in the Global South these economies are a source of livelihood and a coping strategy. This special issue of the Journal of Illicit Economies and Development explores the emerging research in this field. The introductory article presents the key themes in the special issue.
