Third Season of The Transatlantic Literary Women Series launches tomorrow at the National Library of Scotland.

The first event on Tuesday 25 September is “Transatlantic Literary Woman and their Archives”.

It looks at three very different woman writers - Scottish explorer Isobel Wylie Hutchison; American novelist Edith Wharton and Jamaican poet and broadcaster Una Marson.

This thought-provoking afternoon will discuss how female writers are represented in libraries, archives, the literary canon, and the publishing world.

The first event has already sold out but there are a series of talks taking place over the coming months including:

  • Donna M. Campbell, “Conniving and Surviving: Barbara Stanwyck, Bette Davis, and 1930s Movies“: 5.15pm, Wednesday 26th September, Room 202, 4 University Gardens (University of Glasgow), in collaboration with the Hook Centre for American Studies.
  • Helen Hanson, “Putting “Rebecca” on Trial: Daphne du Maurier and Hollywood’s mid-century Adaptation Industry”: 5.15, Tuesday 9th October, Venue TBC.
  • Jennifer Haytock, “Writing for France: American Women Writers and the Great War”, 5.15pm, Wednesday 17 October, 5.15, room 202, 4 University Gardens.
