The Beta Club Overseas celebrated their third reunion in Cyprus
The Beta Club Overseas returned to Cyprus for its third reunion, hosted once again by Agamemnon at the beautiful Grecian Park Hotel overlooking Konnos Bay. Although this year’s gathering was more intimate, with Agamemnon and Yiota Epenetos, Peter and Anne Berkeley, Les Boobis, and Agamemnon’s brother George in attendance, the sense of purpose remained as strong as ever. Other members, including John Gibson and David Evans, joined virtually to ensure their voices were part of the conversation.
The reunion began with a warm and informal dinner at Agamemnon’s home, just a short walk from the hotel. Over the following days, the group enjoyed the hotel’s renowned breakfasts, relaxed by the pool, and took in the stunning views of Konnos Bay. A highlight was the evening spent at the Cliff Bar, perched above the bay, where conversation flowed as freely as the drinks.
Central to the gathering was the scientific and clinical session, held outdoors in the hotel’s gardens. This year’s talks sparked lively discussion, covering topics such as “Mακροβιότητα versus Quality of Life: How the Bedouin Arabs in Israel are coping,” “Virtual Wards – A White Knight or a White Elephant?” and “Instant mRNA Neoantigen Cancer Vaccines.” The group also explored cultural perspectives on intelligence in the thought-provoking presentation “From German Precision to Cypriot Emotion.” These sessions were followed by a virtual meeting with John Gibson and David Evans to consider the future direction of Beta Club Overseas.
The reunion concluded with a memorable lunch at the Grecian Bay Hotel’s renowned fish restaurant in Ayia Napa, and for some, a visit to the evocative sculpture park before departure. As Les Boobis reflected on behalf of the founding and committee members:
“This was the end of another glorious overseas Beta Club Meeting where we again enjoyed the weather, the food and the hospitality of Cyprus.”
