Summary

This is week-long course is an ideal course for students who have already attended Learn to draw in a week course or have already learned basic drawing skills and would now like to learn how to paint. Over the week you will learn how to mix colour, apply paint and learning the difference between using thick opaque paint and translucent paint, as well as the various techniques and styles for each. Possible themes will include still life, landscape, abstract and botanical studies. Materials are not provided.  

Areas you'll explore include: 

  • How to 'see' like an artist and learn to paint subject matter which is accurate in proportion, in a variety of styles. 
  • A variety of painting techniques, media, and equipment.  

By the end of the course, you’ll be able to: 

  • Paint technically and accurately in line and tone, texture, and colours. 
  • Demonstrate skills in a variety of painting techniques, media, and style.  
  • Produce finished paintings.

Anyone who has an interest in learning to paint, and practical art in general

Qualifications/credits

This is a non-credit class, so would not contribute to any qualifications. 

Mode of study

A mixture of practical demonstrations, set exercises and guided study. 

Prospects

Although the course is no-credit bearing, it is still an ideal introduction to the subject.
