Privacy Notice: SFC Upskilling Mailing List

Your Personal Data

The University of Glasgow will be what’s known as the ‘Data Controller’ of your personal data processed in relation to contacting subscribers with information on SFC Upskilling courses. This privacy notice will explain how The University of Glasgow will process your personal data. 

 

Why We Need It

The University will process your personal data to provide you with the communications you have subscribed to. 

If you consent to receive these communications, we will retain and use only the information which is necessary to communicate with you. This may include:  

  • Your name, contact details (email address) and country of residence 
  • Details on your work/study sector 
  • Courses and subject areas that are of interest to you  

The communications we send you will be tailored to any preferences you have expressed. We will only collect data that we need to provide and oversee these services to you. 

 

Legal Basis for Processing Your Data

We must have a legal basis for processing all personal data. In this instance, the legal basis is consent. We process your personal information for the purposes above based on your consent. You will be able to withdraw consent and unsubscribe to the communication you receive at any point by following the instruction provided on each communication we send you. Alternatively, you can contact the Upskilling Team.

 

What We Do with It and Who We Share It With 

We may provide access to such information to our external auditors when relevant. We may on occasion be required by our auditors to circulate third-party surveys via our managed email communications.

We use Dotdigital to supply our bulk email service for prospective SFC Upskilling learner communications. Dotdigital is a private company (data processor) used to provide a bulk email service to the University. Your personal information will be held in the EU; however, there may be occasions where the sub-processors access the data (amounting to a transfer) to provide elements of their services for support. For further details, refer to Dotdigital’sprivacy policy. 

If you would prefer that your data is not stored in Dotdigital, you can opt out of communications at any point. Alternatively, you can contact the Upskilling Team. 

 

How Long Do We Keep It For?

Your data will be retained by the University for 12 months. After this time, data will be securely deleted. 

 

What Are Your Rights?*

You can request access to the information we process about you at any time. If at any point you believe that the information we process relating to you is incorrect you can request to see this information and may in some instances have it restricted, corrected or, erased. You may also have the right to object to the processing of data and the right to data portability. 

Where we have relied upon your consent to process your data, you also have the right to withdraw your consent at any time.

Complaints 

If you wish to raise a complaint on how we have handled your personal data, you can contact the University Data Protection Officer who will investigate the matter.

Your Personal Data

The University of Glasgow will be what’s known as the ‘Data Controller’ of your personal data processed in relation to contacting subscribers with information on SFC Upskilling courses. This privacy notice will explain how The University of Glasgow will process your personal data. 

 

Why We Need It

We are collecting your basic personal data such as name, email address and further contact details, and, where relevant, limited special categories data (such as disability, ethnicity, other health data) as part of Glasgow University’s enrolment journey in order monitor and deliver your course. We will only collect data that we need to provide and oversee this service to you and for progression of study on this course.

 

Legal Basis for Processing Your Data

We must have a legal basis for processing all personal data. In this instance, the legal basis is contract. If you do not provide the appropriate datayou will be unable to proceed with your course. 

 

What We Do with It and Who We Share It With

Your data will be held and deleted by the University until 6 years after the termination of studies in accordance with the University of Glasgow requirements.
