We are delighted to announce the first Nankai / University of Glasgow research conference, which will take place at the University of Nankai in Tianjin on April 28th and 29th 2018. This brings together expert researchers from this University and from leading Universities all over China, including Tsinghua University, Fudan University, The Chinese University of HongKong, etc.

In 2014 the University of Glasgow and the University of Nankai established a Joint Graduate School.  The School is a key flagship venture underpinning our commitment to the University’s transnational education strategy. To this end, we are delighted to announce the first Nankai / University of Glasgow research conference, which will take place at the University of Nankai in Tianjin on April 28th and 29th 2018. This brings together expert researchers from this University and from leading Universities all over China, including Tsinghua University, Fudan University, The Chinese University of HongKong, etc., to explore crucial research questions in the areas outlined above.   Our aim is to provide an environment for the deepening of research links between our two countries, to promote joint international publications in our chosen areas, pursue research funding and recruit research students.

This conference complements our existing masters level teaching at Nankai in environmental management, international relations, and urban planning, and translation studies. This year we are also hosting a summer school for Nankai students at this University.

As host to Scottish Centre for China Research, the Confucius Institute and the Collaborative Innovation Centre for China Economy, and the forthcoming conference at Glasgow on Chinese urban development, we are certain that this inaugural conference will lead to greater research collaboration in crucial areas and will further highlight the international profile of all concerned.
