The Grassfield Burn - Paul Barham

This section of the Grassfield Burn, close by but hidden from the A83 trunk road, represents a fragment of Kintyre’s temperate rainforest, with native birch and alder augmented by plantation beech and invaded by rhododendrons introduced by returning colonialists. The burn may be more at risk of flooding now because of upstream land management and the prioritisation of upland areas for Sitka Spruce plantations, drained pasture and wind farms with their attendant access and service infrastructure.
