The Clyde - Glasgow’s River, when it suits it…..

The original photo was taken on an autumn walk in 2017. Four years on, the view from just outside a travellers’ site in Whiteinch looks much the same:

In the background (L-R): Glasgow University, Partick Old Fire Station, Glasgow Harbour, Riverside Museum, The Tall Ship, The SEC - now preparing to host COP26, the Squinty Bridge, Govan Old Parish Church, Glasgow Science Centre, BAE Systems (the old Upper Clyde Shipyard) showing progress on the new frigate, HMS Glasgow…. In the foreground: Willowherb, Dock, Coltsfoot, Couch Grass, Mosses etc and an unfinished legacy project walkway….

Glasgow’s river has been its lifeblood and remains the focus for the regeneration of the city - but my message from the River Clyde to the Río Atrato is that our rivers need to be nurtured for the benefit of our local communities and not merely exploited for short term gain.
