From the Breggia to the Atrato
These two pieces have been made for Ríos Solidarios by a mother and daughter: Claudia Howald and her 7 year old daughter, Anahí. Claudia lived in Quibdo, on the banks of the Atrato River for two years.
Work 1: Il Fiume
Anahí Ramirez Howald
River: Breggia, in southern Switzerland. Location: Gole della Breggia, al mulino.
Anahí: I am 7 years old, was born in Colombia and my ombligo (umbilical cord) is buried in Quibdó, were I spent my first years. I love to swim and jump into the Breggia in summer. The rest of the year I look for stones and treasures, together with my brother Rafael. I would like people to stop contaminating the world and doing war.
Work 2: El Río Árbol
Claudia Howald
River: Breggia, in southern Switzerland. Location: Gole della Breggia, al mulino.
Claudia: I started to paint on textiles with a group of women in Quibdó, some years ago. I am now painting and evoking the Atrato, looking at the Breggia, one of the few rivers nearby where I feel alive. I feel at peace by the river, looking at the kids playing around. Let peace flow to the Atrato.
