The School hosts a number of centres, networks and projects dedicated to understanding and addressing inequalities, including the Centre for Disability Research and the Centre for Research on Racism Ethnicity and Nationalism. Current projects include work on the impact of COVID-19 on disabled peopleSatnam Virdee’s work on racism, class and social movements, Andy Smith’s work on postcolonialism and Becka Kay’s work on migration and the experiences of migrants and work led by Sarah Armstrong and Lucy Pickering on the impact of COVID-19 on those who are already isolated and excluded.

We support feminist scholarship focused on a range of research including Phillippa Wiseman’s work on gender based violence and people with a learning disabilityCetta Mainwairing’s work on migration and Sharon Wright’s work on lived experience and its importance to social policy development.

Although class is often the forgotten inequality, researchers in the School have a long tradition of exploring class-based inequalities from historical and contemporary perspectives, for example Ewan Gibb’s recent book on deindustrialization.
