"Due to the unique skills and industry experience I gained through Q-Step, I was able to swiftly secure a full-time position after graduation and quickly progress in my career."
I heard about the Q-Step programme in my first year and decided to learn more about it during one of the open days the staff organised. After the oepn day, I decided to try the course and selected it as my third subject in second year with the mindset of having nothing to lose and a lot more to gain if it worked out.
Taking this course, as it turned out, was an excellent decision. The curriculum was very easy to understand for someone with no statistical background and the lecturers made things very accessible, understanding and exciting. I really enjoyed the topics and content, so much so, that I decided to change my plan and graduate in Sociology with Quantitative Methods. Processing through the course, my interest in statistics and quantitative methods grew and my lecturers supported me to explore more on the topic.
I undertook several paid internships through the Q-Step programme during my studies where I applied what I learnt and supported various organisations' stategic evaluation and operational processes, often establishing whole procedures myself.
Due to the unique skills and industry experience I gained through Q-Step, I was able to swiftly secure a full-time position after graduation and quickly progress in my career. As I experienced, having a Social Sciences and Quantitative Methods degree is unique in the job market and is highly sought after due to the mix of soft and hard skills it guarantees. My career opportunities have been wide-ranging, from managing a national funding stream to contributing to the University of Glasgow's strategic decisions. I thoroughly enjoy my career post-university, all thanks to the Q-Step programme. The interdisciplinary skills they taught and the support of the lecturers made me really prepared for 'real life', igniting my (previously unknown) interest in data analytics and setting me off to a diverse career.
