The School is pleased to welcome new members of staff to our Sociology team

The School is delighted to be joined by two new members of staff in our Sociology subject. We welcome Dr Thees Spreckelsen who will contribute to research methods across the School and for the Q-Step programme. Before joining us Thees worked with the Department of Social Policy and Intervention/Centre for Evidence-based Intervention at the University of Oxford, and at the University of Kent. He received a DPhil in Sociology on the topic of 'Effects of National Identity, Measurement, and Analysis' from the University of Oxford/Nuffield College. His research interests are on EU migration and employment, quasi-experimental evaluation methods (specifically synthetic controls).

We are also joined by Jennika Virhia as a Post-Doctoral Research Assistant in the Operationalising One Health in Tanzania (OOHTZ) project. Her role is to facilitate the co-development and evaluation of community-led solutions to reducing zoonotic disease in pastoral communities in northern Tanzania. Prior to joining the School, Jennika was based in the School of Geographical and Earth Sciences where she is soon to complete her PhD. Her doctoral research focused on the lived experiences of zoonotic febrile illness in Tanzania.
