Matthew will join the School as a new Research Associate

We're pleased to welcome Matthew Hanchard to the School, who will be working as a Research Associate on the AHRC project: Beyond the Multiplex. The project aims to understand how we can enable a wider range of audiences to participate in a more diverse film culture.

Matthew is currently in the final stages of a PhD at Newcastle University, titled 'Anchoring digital maps as rough guides: a practice-orientated digital sociology of map use’. He has also carried out research for a COST funded project on ‘Social networks and travel behaviour’ and has over 20 years of working experience in banking, housing, software development (SharePoint), and rail infrastructure maintenance planning (Oracle/PPS/NROL3). Matthew has a wide range of research interests and is open to discuss anything related to: cartographic theory and critical GIS, digital sociology, practice theory, space/place and everyday life, transport studies and mobilities, and/or visual sociology.
