The School is delighted to welcome Dr Beth Pearson, who is joining as a lecturer in Media, Journalism and Communication. Beth recently graduated from our PhD programme with a thesis on transitional justice and the media in Uruguay, and has long been an active member of both the Glasgow Human Rights Network and the Glasgow Latin America Research Network. She has been teaching human rights and media across the Politics and Sociology departments since 2015. Her new role in the Sociology department will include contributing to the MSc Media, Communications and International Journalism. Beth is broadly interested in human rights, the media, and Latin America. She will be contributing a chapter on Uruguay to the forthcoming SAGE International Encyclopedia of Mass Media and Society. She previously worked as a features journalist at The Herald and on a freelance basis for more than a decade. She keeps a hand in by volunteering as a commissioning editor for the Outdoor Swimming Society.
