Discover the Dark Skies
Dumfries and Galloway boasts some of the darkest skies in the UK, and we’re heading out in the School Minibus (or bring your own car if you prefer) towards Caerlaverock for an unforgettable stargazing experience with a Dark Skies Ranger.

What’s planned?
Stargazing with Elizabeth, who will help us identify stars, constellations, and even the Milky Way.
Spotting the International Space Station (ISS).
Lighting a firepit and toasting marshmallows under the night sky.
What you’ll need:
Suitable footwear (wellies or waterproof walking boots recommended)
Warm, waterproof clothing
A torch or headtorch
Scottish weather can be unpredictable, so please dress for all conditions. After the event, we’ll drop students back at Student Halls and Dumfries Whitesands before returning to campus. Limited parking is available for those bringing their own car.
Please note: This event is weather dependent and will be cancelled if conditions are especially poor.
