Recruitment of students and a new team member has been the focus for the SOCIAL AI CDT in 2021.

The PhD recruitment process for Cohort 3 has been adapted to encourage greater equality and diversity and we look forward to updating on our new recruits in the autumn. Our current students have been flexing their creative muscles launching a blog dedicated to exploring social artificial intelligence, and we welcome Alison Purdie Gore as our new Programme Coordinator. Alison has joined us from the James Watt School of Engineering and is looking forward to the challenge of the position, as well as working with colleagues from across the college.

This summer the SOCIAL AI CDT will host two training events. In June, Professor Alessandro Vinciarelli and Dr Fani Deligianni, chaired an International Workshop on AI and Mental Health, bringing together experts in AI, computing and mental health to explore the development of new, computing-based methodologies for the detection, treatment and analysis of mental health issues. The virtual event attracted a diverse audience of over 170 registrants. In July, Co-Director, Dr Monika Harvey and Director, Professor Vinciarelli will chair the International Workshop on AI and Ethics, please keep your eye on our webpage for further details.

The SOCIAL AI CDT was recently highlighted in UoG’s 2025 Strategy as a flagship research programme for digital connectivity and was proud to have several members of its supervisory team referenced in the top 2% cited scientists, worldwide.

Keep up to date with our activities via our website and social media posts: https://socialcdt.org/, on Twitter and on LinkedIN.
