Research Themes

The Nuclear Physics Group at the University of Glasgow has a long tradition of internationally leading research in the experimental study of QCD in the regime of quark confinement and the sub-atomic structure of matter. Our group makes use of the high-intensity electron and photon beams at Jefferson Laboratory (Virginia, USA) and the Mainz Microtron (Germany) to conduct fixed-target experiments which seek to answer questions that broadly fall into one of the three main themes:

  • Hadron Structure
  • Hadron Spectroscopy
  • Mesons, Nucleons and Nuclei: Short-Range Nuclear Structure

Additionally, the group is involved in a number of other projects, making use of shared techniques, facilities, skills or interest:

  • Search for Dark Photons
  • Environmental Radiation Monitoring
  • Medical Imaging Instrumentation
  • Tomography for Nuclear Waste Management
