Text/Image Study

The thriving culture of Text/Image research in Glasgow is second to none, and spans from the illuminations of the Middle Ages to the 21st-century graphic novel.  Researchers at Glasgow have published abundantly in related areas, and the postgraduate environment is flourishing, with topics ranging from regionalism in bande dessinée to image narratives of the Bible. The International Bande Dessinée Society (‘www.arts.gla.ac.uk/ibds’) is run from Glasgow, European Comic Art (Berghann) is co-edited from here, and the School houses the long-running Glasgow Emblem Studies series. We work closely with the Hunterian and with Glasgow University Library’s Special Collections, giving us first-hand access to some of the strongest material facilities in Europe.
