Congratulations to Antonia Lloyd-Jones on her Honorary Doctorate!

Antonia Lloyd-Jones and Elwira Honorary doctorate ceremonyWe are delighted to celebrate the conferral of an Honorary Doctor of Letters (DLitt) to Antonia Lloyd-Jones, a distinguished and award-winning translator of Polish literature, most notably the novels of the Nobel laureate Olga Tokarczuk.  The degree was awarded by the University of Glasgow on 30 June 2026, in recognition of her outstanding contribution to literary translation and intercultural exchange.  Antonia was presented by Elwira Grossman, who delivered the oration at the graduation ceremony.

Award ceremony DLitt This is the first time, to our knowledge, that a UK institution of higher education has awarded an honorary doctorate uniquely to a translator, and fittingly so for our Centre, which has long championed the value and importance of translation and the co-creative role of the translator. We are particularly proud to honour a translator whose work has brought Polish literature to English-speaking readers around the world.
