The Community Oral Health Research Group leads an international research collaboration in head and neck cancer.

David Conway, alongside Alex McMahon and Lorna Macpherson from the Community Oral Health Research Group have been leading a major international collaborative research project investigating socioeconomic factors associated with head and neck cancer. The study, involving 75 co-authors from 31 countries as part of the International Head and Neck Cancer Epidemiology (INHANCE http://www.inhance.utah.edu/) consortium, has been pre-published online http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/ijc.29063/abstract

They have confirmed a substantial role of socioeconomic status in head and neck cancer risk, which is not entirely explained by smoking and alcohol consumption. They make the case for more explicit use of socioeconomic status in risk profiling and assessment.
