Welcome from the Head of School

March 2019

Dear Colleagues,

Once again a lively and eventful semester, with only a small fraction of the activities that happen with in the School, and by School members, being included in the Newsletter. Please keep articles coming!

A large part of my time this semester has been taken up with the appointment of new staff. I’m always reminded on a line in Paul Halmos’ book “I want to be a mathematician” that the most important job a Head of School does is the appointing of the next generation, and it has been a privilege to see the enthusiasm, drive, energy and talent of all of the people who applied and were interviewed. So welcome to the new staff who have started already, and we’ll write up short biographies of the new staff when all have arrived.

While we welcome new staff, we also say goodbye – temporarily – to Louise, who will start her maternity leave soon. Good luck – your life will never be the same again! And we welcome Lynsey-Anne Moffat who will be covering for Louise over the next year.

With best wishes,

Ian
